Safety

General Safety

Read the operator’s manual before starting the LX210. Familiarize yourself with all safety instructions, controls, and operational procedures to ensure safe and proper use of the machine.

Always wear your seat belt when the engine is running. The seat belt must be fastened and properly secured at all times while operating the LX210 to protect you in case of sudden movement or tipping.

Operate the LX210 only from the designated operator’s seat. Do not attempt to control the machine from any other location, as this increases the risk of injury and reduces your ability to respond safely to changing conditions.

Keep all personnel clear of the LX210 and its swing radius during operation. Never allow anyone to stand near or pass under the boom, arm, or bucket while the machine is moving or working. Do not carry passengers or riders under any circumstances. The cab sound level is 70 dB(A); use hearing protection if you are exposed to loud noise outside the cab.

Before Starting the Engine

Walk around the machine and check for leaks, damage and loose fasteners. Inspect the undercarriage, boom, arm, bucket, and all hydraulic hoses and connections. Look for signs of fluid seepage, cracks, or missing components. Ensure the tracks are properly tensioned and free of debris. Do not operate the machine if any issues are found.

Make sure all controls are in neutral and the hydraulic lockout is engaged. Verify that the travel levers, swing lever, and bucket and arm controls are all centered and not under pressure. Confirm the hydraulic lockout is securely in place before proceeding. This prevents unintended movement during startup.

Sound the horn before starting the engine. Do this to alert nearby personnel and confirm the machine is ready to operate. After the horn, adjust the seat and mirrors before moving. Position the seat so you can reach all controls comfortably and see all critical areas. Adjust the mirrors to provide a clear view of the rear and sides of the machine.

Hydraulic Lockout

Always engage the hydraulic lockout lever before leaving the operator’s seat, at every break, and before performing any service work. This action disables all implement and swing functions to prevent unintended machine movement. Failure to lock out hydraulics increases the risk of injury or damage.

The hydraulic lockout must be released manually—no assistant or remote method can disengage it. Only the operator can perform this action, and it must be done deliberately each time the machine is restarted. Never assume the lockout is disengaged; always verify it is fully released before operating the machine.

Working on Slopes

Maximum grade for travel is 70 percent. Travel straight up and down slopes, never across. Keep the bucket low and close to the machine on a slope. Swing slowly on a slope; swinging downhill reduces stability.

Overhead and Buried Hazards

Before beginning any digging operation, locate and mark all buried services using available utility maps and detection methods. Confirm the exact position of pipes, cables, and other underground infrastructure to avoid damage. Never assume the location of buried services based on past knowledge or visual inspection.

Maintain the legally required clearance from overhead power lines at all times. Keep the excavator’s boom, stick, and bucket at a safe distance from any power lines, even if they appear to be low voltage or inactive. If work must be done near power lines, use a spotter or follow site-specific safety procedures to ensure safe clearance is maintained.

When working under structures or overhead lines, set a ceiling work limit to define the maximum height the boom and attachments may reach. When digging above buried services, set a floor work limit to define the minimum depth you may dig. These limits must be clearly marked and respected throughout the operation to prevent accidents and damage.

Fire Prevention

Keep a fire extinguisher in the cab at all times and ensure you know how to operate it. Inspect the extinguisher regularly to confirm it is charged and accessible. In the event of a fire, immediate action is critical—knowing how to use the extinguisher can prevent serious damage or injury.

Clean flammable debris such as oil-soaked rags, dry grass, or accumulated dust from the engine compartment each day. Pay close attention to areas around the radiator, engine block, and exhaust system where heat and debris can combine to create a fire hazard. A clean engine compartment reduces the risk of ignition during normal operation.

Do not refuel the LX210 with the engine running or while smoking. Refueling while the engine is operating increases the risk of fuel vapor ignition. Similarly, smoking near the fuel tank or fuel lines can lead to fire. Check for fuel and hydraulic leaks at the start of every shift. Address any leaks immediately to prevent fluid buildup that could ignite under high temperatures.

Emergency Egress

In the event of an emergency, use the rear window as your secondary exit. Ensure the area around the rear window remains unobstructed at all times. Keep both exits clear of stored items to allow for quick and safe egress.

An emergency hammer is mounted beside the rear window. Use it only when necessary to break the glass and exit the cab. Always check that the hammer is present and accessible before starting your shift.

Controls

Joysticks

Set the joystick pattern to ISO or SAE using the control panel. ISO is the factory default setting, where the left joystick controls the stick and swing, and the right joystick controls the boom and bucket. SAE swaps the stick and boom functions. Changing the pattern alters the function of every joystick movement, so confirm and verify the selected pattern before beginning any operation.

Check the pattern indicator on the display before starting work to ensure the correct configuration is active. After changing the pattern, verify joystick response at low speed to confirm that each movement operates as expected and matches the selected configuration.

Travel Controls

Operate the travel pedals or levers to control each track independently. Use the left pedal or lever to adjust the left track and the right pedal or lever to adjust the right track. This allows precise maneuvering in tight spaces or uneven terrain.

Set the travel range switch to low range or high range as needed. Low range travel speed is 3.2 km/h and high range travel speed is 5.5 km/h. Select the appropriate range based on the working conditions and desired speed.

Enable the left joystick travel steering switch to allow travel steering using the left joystick. Set the speed hold switch to on to maintain a set travel speed. Adjust the tracking bias control to correct for any drift during travel. Use the range from -5 to +5 to bias tracking left or right as required.

Speed and Response Settings

Adjust the speed and response settings using the control panel to match your work conditions. Select slow, normal, or fast to limit the maximum boom cylinder rate. This setting controls how quickly the boom can extend or retract, allowing you to manage precision and power based on the task.

Select slow, normal, or fast to limit the maximum arm cylinder rate. This setting determines the top speed of the arm’s movement, helping you maintain control during delicate or heavy digging operations. Choose the appropriate rate to suit the material and desired digging pattern.

Choose slow, normal, or fast to limit the maximum bucket curl rate. This affects how fast the bucket can open or close, which is critical when handling loose materials or performing fine grading. Also, select slow, normal, or fast to limit the maximum upperstructure rotation rate. This setting governs how quickly the cab can turn, influencing stability and control during rotation-heavy tasks.

Select slow, normal, or fast for overall implement responsiveness. This setting adjusts how quickly the machine reacts to your inputs across all functions. Additionally, set low, medium, or high to determine how aggressively the machine responds to small joystick movements. Speed and response changes take effect immediately once confirmed, and change how the machine feels—verify before working at full rate.

Work Modes

Activate Work Mode 1 to soften implement response for finish grading. Use this setting when precision control is required on final surface work. Turn Work Mode 1 on or off as needed to adjust the sensitivity of bucket and arm movements during fine grading tasks.

Activate Work Mode 2 to reduce machine speeds and enable an overload warning during lifting operations. This mode helps prevent overloading during crane-like tasks. Use Work Mode 2 on or off depending on the lifting workload. Activate Work Mode 3 to provide sustained auxiliary hydraulic flow for attachments such as breakers and augers. Idle Management

Work Tool Selection

Work Area Limits

Overview

Set work area limits to define the boundaries within which the LX210’s implement and swing motions will stop before reaching an obstruction. These virtual boundaries are also known as e-fences or virtual walls. Use them to prevent accidental contact with nearby structures, equipment, or terrain features. Always verify that the limits are properly configured before beginning any operation.

Adjust linear limits to a value between 10 mm and 10 m to control the distance from the machine’s outermost points. Adjust angular limits to a value between 0 and 180 degrees to restrict the swing arc. Ensure all settings fall within these ranges to maintain proper function and safety.

Boundary Types

Always check the ceiling limit before raising the boom or attaching any auxiliary equipment. The ceiling limit is the height limit above the machine, for overhead lines and structures. Never exceed this limit to avoid contact with overhead hazards. Maintain a safe clearance at all times.

Check the wall limit before extending the arm or digging in front of the machine. The wall limit is the horizontal distance limit in front of the machine. Staying within this limit prevents contact with nearby obstacles or structures. Confirm the wall limit is respected before initiating any forward digging motion.

Verify the floor limit before digging below ground level. The floor limit is the dig depth limit below grade, for buried services. Do not dig beyond this depth to avoid damaging underground utilities. Confirm the floor limit is respected before beginning any excavation below ground.

Rules and Restrictions

Always use work area limits as an aid, not as a replacement for spotters or visual checks. Maintain awareness of your surroundings at all times, and never assume the limits alone ensure safe operation. Relying solely on electronic limits can lead to unexpected contact with obstacles or overhead hazards.

Confirm every limit change before it takes effect. Do not proceed with a new limit setting until you have verified that the change has been accepted and applied correctly. A misconfigured limit can compromise safety and machine integrity.

Verify any new limit at low speed before operating at full rate. If a work-limit sensor fault (E420) is active, do not rely on limits. The system may not function properly, and the machine’s protection against overreach will be unreliable. Always check for fault codes and address them before continuing operation.

Setting a Limit

To set a limit, select the desired method: enter a value directly or capture the current implement position. Use the control panel to choose the setting mode, then proceed with the input. The system will store the selected position or value once confirmed.

Every action—setting a limit, activating a boundary, or deactivating a limit—requires explicit confirmation from the operator. Press the confirmation button or follow the on-screen prompt to complete the operation. Without confirmation, no change takes effect.

A boundary cannot be activated if it has no configured value. Check the current limit status before attempting activation. If a limit is deactivated, its stored value remains in memory and can be reactivated later without re-entry.

Operation

Starting the Engine

Turn the key to ON and wait for the system check to finish. Ensure all warning lights have turned off and the engine readiness indicator is active before proceeding. Do not attempt to start the engine until the system check is complete.

Do not crank the starter for more than 30 seconds at a time. If the engine does not start within that period, release the key and wait at least two minutes before attempting again. Repeated cranking without a cooldown can damage the starter motor and battery.

Let the engine warm up before applying full hydraulic load. In cold weather, allow a longer warm-up and cycle the implements slowly. This helps ensure proper lubrication and system pressure build-up, reducing stress on components during initial operation.

Digging

pp39-41

Position the machine square to the trench where possible to ensure stable operation and optimal digging performance. This alignment helps maintain control and reduces strain on the hydraulic system during excavation.

Dig to a maximum depth of 6.7 meters. Exceeding this depth may cause instability or damage to the machine. Always monitor ground conditions and adjust your approach as needed to maintain safe and efficient digging.

Reach the maximum horizontal distance of 9.9 meters when extending the boom and stick. Use this reach carefully, especially when working near obstacles or on uneven ground, to prevent overloading the hydraulic system.

Dump material to a height of up to 6.8 meters. Ensure the bucket is fully open and the stick is fully extended before dumping. Keep the bucket curl and stick motion smooth to avoid relief-valve heating. The bucket capacity is 1.0 cubic metres—do not overload it beyond this volume.

Lifting

Use crane mode whenever performing lifting operations with the LX210. Engage crane mode before raising the boom or attaching any lifting gear to ensure the machine operates safely under load.

Never lift a load over people, even briefly. Maintain a clear zone beneath and around the load path at all times to prevent injury in case of failure or drop.

Keep the load as close to the machine as possible and swing the boom slowly and deliberately. Always consult the load chart before lifting; the safe working capacity decreases as the reach increases and as the swing angle becomes more acute.

Travelling the Machine

Before travelling, retract the stick fully and keep the bucket close to the ground to maintain stability and prevent accidental contact with obstacles. Ensure the bucket is empty and positioned to minimize swing resistance and reduce the risk of tipping during movement.

Align the upperstructure with the tracks before starting to travel. This ensures even weight distribution and reduces stress on the machine’s components during transit. Always check that the tracks are straight and the machine is pointed in the intended direction before engaging travel controls.

Do not travel on slopes steeper than 70 percent. Traveling on steeper grades increases the risk of instability and potential rollover. Remember that work area limits do not apply to travel; you are responsible for assessing terrain and conditions independently.

Parking and Shutdown

Park the LX210 on level ground and lower the bucket to the ground to ensure stability and prevent unintended movement. Confirm the machine is fully supported and secure before proceeding with shutdown procedures.

Engage the hydraulic lockout to prevent any hydraulic pressure from being released unexpectedly. This step ensures that all hydraulic functions remain locked in place during parking and helps maintain safety while the machine is unattended.

Cold Weather Operation

Cycle the excavator’s implements slowly for several minutes after starting. This action warms the hydraulic oil and ensures proper fluid flow throughout the system. Avoid rapid or heavy use of the hydraulics until the oil has reached operating temperature.

Keep the fuel tank full at all times during cold weather. A full tank minimizes the space available for moisture to condense inside. Also, remove snow and ice from all steps, handholds and the cab glass before operating the LX210. Clear access points and visibility to prevent slips and ensure safe operation.

Cab Climate

Set the climate system to manual or automatic mode using the control panel. In manual mode, adjust fan speed and temperature independently. In automatic mode, the system maintains the selected temperature by adjusting fan speed as needed.

Adjust the fan level to off, low, medium-low, medium, medium-high, or high. Select a fan level that provides comfortable airflow without excessive noise. The temperature can be set from 14 to 32 degrees Celsius, or 57 to 90 Fahrenheit, to suit your preference.

Engage max defrost to direct full airflow to the windshield and activate air conditioning for rapid defogging. Use fresh air mode when working in dusty conditions with the cab pressurised to reduce dust entry and maintain clean interior air.

Lights and Visibility

Operate the front work lights and rear work lights when visibility is reduced or when working in low-light conditions. Use the cab light to illuminate the interior during night operations or when working in dark environments. The beacon must be activated whenever the LX210 is operating near traffic or in proximity to other machines to increase visibility and ensure safety.

Adjust the wipers to intermittent, low, or high mode depending on the amount of precipitation or debris on the windshield. Use the washer function to clear dirt, dust, or grime from the windshield when needed. Ensure the wiper blades are in good condition and replace them if they streak or fail to clear the glass effectively.

Clean the camera lenses and mirrors regularly to maintain clear visibility. Dirty lenses or mirrors can impair your view and lead to unsafe operating conditions. Keep all external vision aids free from dirt, ice, and smudges to ensure accurate situational awareness at all times.

Maintenance

Every 10 Service Hours or Daily

Perform a walk-around inspection of the LX210 each day before starting operation. Check for visible damage, loose components, fluid leaks, or abnormal wear on the machine’s structure, tracks, arms, and attachments. Ensure all lights, mirrors, and safety devices are intact and functional.

Check the engine oil level daily using the dipstick. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, then remove it again to verify the oil level is within the recommended range. Add oil if necessary, using the type specified in the LX210’s documentation.

Verify the coolant level daily by inspecting the coolant reservoir. Ensure the level is between the minimum and maximum marks when the engine is cold. Top up with the correct coolant mixture if needed, and do not open the radiator cap while the engine is hot.

Inspect the hydraulic oil level daily using the sight glass or dipstick. Confirm the level is within the proper range and check for signs of contamination or low fluid. Drain the fuel water separator daily to remove accumulated water and debris. Check the track tension daily by measuring the sag in the track between the idler and the drive sprocket, and adjust as required. Lubricate the bucket and linkage points daily using the grease fittings to ensure smooth operation and reduce wear.

Every 50 Service Hours

Perform swing bearing grease at every 50 service hours. Locate the grease fittings on the swing bearing and apply grease until fresh grease emerges from the seals. Ensure all fittings are properly lubricated to prevent wear and maintain smooth operation.

Perform boom and stick pin lubrication at every 50 service hours. Identify the pin joints on the boom and stick, then apply grease to each pin using the designated fittings. Continue until fresh grease appears at the joint, confirming full lubrication. This helps reduce friction and extends component life.

Every 250 Service Hours

Perform an engine oil and filter change every 250 service hours. Drain the old oil completely and replace the oil filter with a new one. Use the recommended oil type and ensure the oil level is checked after refill.

Inspect the fuel filter every 250 hours. Check for signs of contamination, blockage, or damage. Replace the filter if it appears dirty or if fuel flow is restricted. Always use a new filter when replacing.

Check the battery terminals every 250 hours. Clean any corrosion or debris from the terminals and ensure connections are tight. Inspect the air conditioner filter and clean it if it is dirty or obstructed. Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris.

Every 500 Service Hours

Perform secondary fuel filter replacement every 500 service hours. Access the secondary filter housing and remove the used element. Install a new secondary fuel filter and confirm the seal is properly seated. Tighten the housing to the recommended torque and check for any signs of leakage during operation.

Inspect the engine air cleaner primary element every 500 service hours. Remove the cover and examine the primary element for dirt, debris, or blockages. Clean the element if it is reusable, or replace it if damaged or excessively dirty. Reinstall the element and secure the cover tightly to maintain proper engine air intake. Also, replace the hydraulic return filter every 500 service hours to ensure clean hydraulic fluid circulation.

Every 1000 Service Hours

At every 1000 hours of operation, perform a swing drive oil change on the LX210. Drain the old oil completely and refill to the proper level using the recommended oil type. Ensure the oil level is checked after refill and that the system is free of leaks before resuming operation.

At every 1000 hours, also complete a final drive oil change. Remove the drain plug and allow the old oil to drain completely. Refill the final drive with the correct oil type to the specified level. Verify the oil level and inspect for any signs of leakage after the refill.

At every 1000 hours, conduct an engine valve lash check and a hydraulic oil sample analysis. For the valve lash check, ensure the engine is cold and use the appropriate tools to verify and adjust the clearance according to specifications. For the hydraulic oil sample analysis, collect a representative sample from the system and send it to a qualified laboratory for evaluation.

Every 2000 Service Hours

Perform a hydraulic oil change every 2000 service hours. Drain the old oil completely and refill with fresh hydraulic fluid to the proper level as indicated on the dipstick. Use only hydraulic oil that meets the LX210’s specifications.

Change the coolant every 2000 service hours using extended-life coolant. Drain the system completely and refill with the correct coolant type, ensuring the level is correct when the engine is cold. Verify the cooling system is free of leaks after refilling.

Replace the engine air cleaner primary element every 2000 service hours. Remove the old element and install a new one, ensuring it is properly seated and secured. Inspect the alternator and starter during this service. Check for secure mounting, clean connections, and signs of wear or damage. Address any issues found immediately.

Fluid Specifications

Refill Capacities

Fuel tank capacity is 410 litres. Diesel exhaust fluid tank capacity is 32 litres. Hydraulic tank capacity is 150 litres. Cooling system capacity is 26 litres. Engine oil capacity with filter is 21 litres. Swing drive oil capacity is 6.5 litres. Each final drive holds 4.0 litres.

Lubrication Points

Grease the boom, stick, and bucket pins every 10 hours of operation under normal conditions. Inspect each pin and fitting before starting the greasing process. Wipe the grease fitting clean with a dry cloth before attaching the grease gun to prevent contamination. After greasing, wipe the fitting clean again to remove excess grease and debris.

Grease the swing bearing every 50 hours of operation. This interval applies only under normal operating conditions. Always inspect the swing bearing area for signs of wear or contamination before beginning lubrication. Use NLGI grade 2 lithium complex grease for all lubrication points on the LX210, including the swing bearing, boom, stick, and bucket pins.

Increase the frequency of greasing in wet, muddy, or dusty conditions. These environments accelerate wear and can introduce foreign material into the pivot points. Wipe fittings clean before and after greasing in all conditions to maintain clean lubrication and prevent damage. Never skip this step, even when working under demanding conditions.

Filters

Replace both fuel filters every 500 hours. Perform this task at the scheduled interval to maintain engine performance and prevent fuel system contamination. Always use genuine LX210 replacement filters to ensure proper fit and function.

Replace the hydraulic return filter every 500 hours. This filter protects the hydraulic system from debris and ensures smooth operation. Check the filter housing for leaks or damage during replacement and tighten all connections securely.

Inspect the engine air cleaner primary element every 500 hours and replace it every 2000 hours. Clean the cab air conditioner filter every 250 hours to maintain cabin air quality. Replace a filter immediately if a restriction warning appears, as continued operation under warning conditions may lead to system damage.

Undercarriage and Tracks

Check track sag daily and adjust to specification. Use the proper tools and procedures to ensure the track tension is within the required range. Failure to maintain correct track sag can lead to increased wear and potential track failure.

Clean packed material from the undercarriage at the end of each shift. Remove debris from around the rollers, idlers, and sprockets to prevent buildup that can cause overheating or mechanical damage. A clean undercarriage helps maintain optimal performance and extends component life.

Inspect idlers, rollers, and sprockets for leaks and wear weekly. Look for signs of oil or grease leakage, excessive play, or visible damage. Replace any components showing signs of significant wear or damage before they compromise machine operation. Track shoe width is 600 mm.

Batteries and Electrical

The electrical system of the LX210 is 24 volts and uses two 12 volt batteries connected in series. Ensure both batteries are securely fastened and properly connected. Always inspect the battery terminals for corrosion or loose connections before operation. If a battery requires replacement, use two 12 volt batteries of the same type and rating to maintain system integrity.

The alternator is rated at 80 amperes and provides power to the electrical system while the engine is running. With the engine operating, the charging voltage should measure between 27.0 and 28.5 volts. If the voltage falls outside this range, inspect the alternator, battery, and wiring for faults. Do not operate the machine if the charging system is not functioning within these specifications.

Always disconnect the negative battery terminal first when removing or servicing the battery. When reconnecting, attach the negative terminal last. Never attempt to jump-start the LX210 from a frozen battery, as this can cause damage to the battery or electrical components. Allow frozen batteries to thaw completely before attempting any electrical connections.

Cooling System

Check the coolant level only when the system is cool. Never open the radiator cap or coolant reservoir while the engine is hot. Allow the engine to cool completely before inspecting the coolant level to prevent burns or pressure-related injury.

Clean the radiator and oil cooler cores whenever debris accumulates. Remove dirt, leaves, and other obstructions from the front of the cooling system to maintain proper airflow and heat dissipation. Use compressed air or a soft brush to gently clear debris, being careful not to damage the fins.
